1993+
Born in the Idaho resort town of Sun Valley, I spent the majority of my childhood traveling back & forth between there and Boise. From my mom (an artist) and my dad (a homebuilder), I developed an unique passion for creative projects of all kinds. My first "business" endeavor was in the 2nd grade selling handmade holiday cards, donating a portion of profits to Idaho state's proactive efforts against domestic child abuse.
I attended Boise High School, participating in sports and student government. From MC-ing talent shows to leading student cheer sections at sporting events, I starting yearning for more opportunities to share my "big" personality with crowds. My senior year my peers nominated me for Prom King (so yes I think it'd be entirely safe to admit that I "peaked" in high school). Those years weren't without challenges, though. My cousin, whom I'd looked up to a great deal had tragically committed suicide, and a lifelong friend had been killed in a car accident all in the same year. Looking back, it's easy to pin point this time of my life as an integral part of who I am today - Reinforcing my character & values as a young man graduating high school in a wide-open world.
2012+
I attended the University of Portland on scholarship and immediately immersed myself in college culture. I arrived early with a group of incoming freshman to volunteer in Portland as part of a "Service Plunge." I met a few of my best friends there, and years later we'd share our first off-campus house together. The crowd-seeking continued throughout my freshman, sophomore and junior years where I would perform at annual fundraisers around campus.
My junior year, I was accepted into the Entrepreneurial Scholars Program, enabling me to travel to Denver, New York City and Sweden to network with experts in my field of interest. My year-long project, "Little Oasis" explored the emerging need for innovative senior living solutions with an aging baby-boomer population in the U.S. This same year, a professor nominated me to represent our school as a University Innovation Fellow, which snow-balled into winning a Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) from the Portland Rotary Society.
2016+
I graduated with honors in May 2016, and immediately traveled to India to volunteer for Mother Teresa's Sacred Heart Foundation in the "Prem Dan House" for the destitute and dying. This was actually my second international service immersion through the university, my first being to Nicaragua in the summer of 2014 to assist at an art school for troubled youth. These were powerful experiences exposing me to global diversity (and poverty), which inspired me further down a path of "purposeful travel."
2019+
In November 2019, I was hired to manage a medical mission program for a non-profit in San Diego, CA. I devoted the next 6 years of my life to recruiting and leading volunteer surgical teams to "medically underserved" communities around the world. I lead groups into Mexico, Honduras, Brazil & the Eastern Caribbean Islands and supported teams throughout South America, East Africa & South/East Asia. Our trips were typically a week long and comprised of 30-50 medical volunteers, including spine surgeons and multiple full OR teams to diagnose spinal disorders and perform spine surgery. My youngest patient was 6 years old - with early onset scoliosis - together with my team, we corrected the severe curvature of her spine that would likely have become fatal before age 20.
This was me, bridging my passion for community service, purposeful travel and an education in business operations and leadership training. As impactful and rewarding as my role was, I knew I had outgrown it.
Present+
I am still residing in San Diego along with my trustee feline companion, Lenny Paws, hungry for my next opportunity to exercise a love for international leadership & philanthropic impact. If you know of an organization doing "good" work that's in need of a passionate leader with globally-facing experience, you know where to find me! : )
